Hi, I’m Erika, the person behind Fern Forest Flowers.

I began my flower growing journey with 3 dahlia tubers in 2017 and that blossomed into a dream of owning a Flower Business. In 2018, I started Fern Forest Flowers by opening my first dahlia tuber shop.

I will freely admit that I am a hooked on flowers. I just can’t get enough of them and I love the joy I feel when I dig into the dirt and grow flowers.

I never imagined myself going down the path to be a flower farmer or a farmer-florist for that matter. Growing up I wanted to be a veterinarian and then I decided accounting looked like a nice career. In college I went down that road for a while but then I figured out that Accounting wasn’t my thing. So I tried something different and a few years later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management. I was convinced that this was the right thing for me.

And then I started to grow flowers.

Growing flowers fed my inherent need to learn. It’s one of the reasons I love nature so much. There’s so much to know and learn, and it’s all fascinating. Gardening and growing flowers is the same way. Not to mention they are beautiful and have the ability to connect us with each other. Flowers can help us express so many things; thank you, sorry, I miss you, I love you, congratulations, good bye. There’s just something so magical about them.

I used to grow my flowers in the backyard garden at a rental home that I share with my husband, his daughter, and our two dogs. However, my husband and I recently became new home owners! We are very excited about our new house. It has a wonderful backyard, that I can’t wait to fill with flowers. In addition to the home garden, I also have a flower field at my parents a few towns over where I grow the majority of my cut flowers.

About 95% of the flowers I sell are seed to vase. This means that I plant all the flowers seeds and cultivate them from the time they are tiny little baby plants to beautiful blooming flowers. Flowers are also harvested just a few days before they reach your hands. You can’t get more local and fresh than that! My flowers aren’t flown in from overseas and they won’t be treated with harsh herbicides or pesticides either.

My favorite flowers to grow are Dahlias, Ranunculus, and Zinnias but I’m guilty of falling in love with almost every thing that I grow. My goal is to help others experience and reconnect with nature through beautiful flowers.
